Go Debt Free
Once upon a time, there was a racehorse named Crazy George. Crazy George's owner, Mr. Phat, bought him with the money he saved when he enrolled in a debt consolidation program to become debt free. You see, a long time ago, Mr. Phat was in debt up to his eyeballs because he always got cash advances from his credit cards to gamble with at the racetrack. Since his debt was up to his eyeballs, he couldn't see a way out. His favorite horse at the track was Debt Free. He could be heard screaming, "Go Crazy George, Go!" at every race. Alas, Crazy George was not a fast horse, but for some reason, Mr. Phat had faith in him.
Then one day at the racetrack, Mr. Phat tried to get a cash advance, but was denied. So he went to the ATM and found out that his bank account also denied him. At that point he began looking for change to place a minimum bet. He looked under the risers, in the stands, everywhere. While crawling on the ground in his search for change, he ran into the foot of a mysterious man in a black suit with dark glasses and a black detective-looking hat. The man put a cigarette out on the ground in front of Mr. Phat. Mr. Phat looked up at the mysterious man quizzically. The man looked down at Mr. Phat and said, "I've seen your kind before. You're pathetic. Your a compulsive gambler with a debt problem to boot." Then he handed Mr. Phat a card. "I've seen you cheering for that losing horse every day. Take this card. It had two phone numbers you need." With that, the mysterious man disappeared. Mr. Phat took a look at the card. One number was 1-800-BETS-OFF - a gambling help line. The other number was for a debt management company. Realizing that the mysterious man was probably right, he called both numbers.
We can't tell you much about Mr. Phat's success with the gambling help line, but we can tell you that the debt management company helped Mr. Phat with his debt. When he met with a debt management counselor, he said, "I'm in debt. I gamble too much. Now I have no money. I want to own a racehorse someday and train him to be a winner, but I have no money. I want togo debt free! Please help me!" And help they did. First they talked to him about his income and his debts, then they told him of the many different ways he could go debt free. "There are so many ways you can go debt free, from debt consolidation to debt settlement," the debt counselor said. "But I recommend debt consolidation for you. Now let's talk about how to get that horse and the costs associated with training him."
Mr. Phat worked with his debt counselor, and within five years, he was debt free. He even managed to save enough money to buy a horse. He decided to buy Crazy George. He got him for a bargain price since he was never really a winner. But Mr. Phat had high hopes for Crazy George. He even renamed him. Crazy George's new name became Go Debt Free, for sentimental reasons. He trained him and trained him, then finally raced him. During his first race, Mr. Phat could be heard screaming, "Go Debt Free, go!"And go he did--straight to the finish line, and first place.
Mr. Phat didn't know it, but the mysterious man was in the stands. When he heard Mr. Phat screaming, "Go Debt Free, go!"he couldn't help but think it was more than a cheer for a racehorse--it was advice for others, telling them to be debt free.
